Program Notes

Saint John Henry Newman’s inspiring hymn of supplication and John Bacchus Dykes’ stirring tune, “Lux Benigna,'' are combined in this dramatic setting for SATB Choir and chamber orchestra. Building to a powerful climax on the words, “So long thy pow’r hast blest me, sure it still will lead me on,” the work concludes peacefully, as it began, culminating a journey from darkness into light.
