The original manuscript of the beloved carol, "Ding Dong! Merrily on High," was first discovered in 1588. It subsequently circulated throughout Europe for over 300 years before it was given an English text by the Anglican priest George Ratcliffe Woodward (1848-1934). His lyrics for, “Ding Dong! Merrily on High,” published in 1924 in "The Cambridge Carol Book" were undoubtedly inspired by his lifelong passion for church tower bell ringing and archaic poetry. This joyful French carol is given a fresh, new interpretation in this setting for SATB choir, optional handbells, optional sleigh bells, and piano four hands. The vocal parts are easily accessible, while the accompaniment delightfully captures the sound of pealing bells.
