The Wexford Carol is among the most beautiful of all Christmas carols and is thought to be one of the oldest still sung today. The text presents a vivid account of Christ’s Nativity, beginning with Mary and Joseph finding no room in the Bethlehem inn, and ending with the shepherds rejoicing at the Savior’s birth. The carol’s tender, haunting melody is accompanied in this arrangement by chamber orchestra, painting an awe-inspiring picture of the first Christmas night.
